Summer house in Andros / proposal
A summer house in Andros is designed around the fact that the island's building regulations do not allow large openings. As an alternative, the house is split into two volumes joined by an internal courtyard that is open to both sides.
The two main volumes of the house have a height difference of 50 cm, which along with the natural slope of the site, create "in between" spaces such as an elevated porch in the courtyard and a roof top veranda accesible from outside the house.
A combination of white plaster and local stone is used in order to highlight the separation of the volumes.
The external openings are arranged so as to follow the island's regulations restrictions in terms of size and proportions.
