Apartment building in Gkazi / licenced

The site faces a small street in the busy central area of Gkazi, Athens. The  design objectives were to create a building which could be isolated from the street and face into internal courtyards and at the same time could blend with the existing low-rise and warehouse buildings.

Large parts of the facade are covered with perforated sliding panels made of Corten steel, which are used as a screen providing privacy as well as unhindered views of the outside.

The visual features of the facade vary depending on the time of the day, the lighting conditions and the desired level of privacy.

The Corten steel is in harmony with its surrounding colours and materiality while also limiting radiant energy gain.
